well the australian government is getting some pressure, so theyre passing that pressure on. i doubt it figures much into the thinking of the american government, nevertheless there is some pressure coming from australia.
if you don't know, hicks went to some muslim nation to do some war type training with terrorists. he's being charged with attempted murder and some other stuff. he's obviously a bit of a suspect but attempted murder? he never engaged in any actual war or terrorism, besides, if he was in a war, you can't charge him with attempted murder. that's where the special designation of guantanamo bay prisoners comes in - he doesn't get the same rights or treatment as a prisoner of war.
anyway, i feel more sorry for any innocent brown-skinned people who may be there.
why does it take so long? anyway, his american lawyer is going to argue that any evidence they got from him was given under duress... which is of course true of all G.B. prisoners.
the number of people initially rounded up in afghanistan makes me believe that surely some innocent people have been caught up in it.
EDIT: cheney visited our PM in Sydney recently. they shut down all traffic on the sydney harbour bridge, including marine traffic beneath the bridge, so that cheney and howard could travel beneath it without being asassinated or pooped on. fair call, i myself would like to accidentally shoot cheney while hunting seagulls, but why not just cancel the boat trip and concentrate on important stuff, rather than fuck with the traffic of an already congested city.
