Using an appearance with Justin Timberlake, the Microsoft chairman debuted a new music service, Urge, to directly compete with the iTunes music store and interface. Urge launches with over 2 million tracks for purchase or as part of an all-you-can eat subscription, an option the iTunes music store doesn't have. The offering will include exclusive material from MTV, though it will not be compatible with iPods, which are currently the most popular MP3 player. money.cnn.com/2006/01/04/technology/ces_gates/index.htm---------------------------- P_N

A couple days after Christmas I bought myself a new Video iPod, best piece of electronics i've ever laid hands on. It blows away every other mp3 player, aside from the fact that it plays all types of files unlike the rest, the navigation and other controls are so intuitive, so easy to use, it's the most perfect thing ever. Well worth the 300 dollars (30gig version). I like it so much i'll have a serious look at buying a Mac next computer.

i dunno about the mac part, but my ipod has altered my life, and now especially that i got the itrip. i don't need ANY CDs anymore, all i need is a radio (and the cord to charge the ipod with).

Yeah, I was thinking today that i'm glad I didn't spend a bunch of money on a new cd player system (my car didn't come with one), my 2200 mp3s take up about 10 gigs, leaving 20gigs more for me to put all my cds on when I get around to ripping them, i'll have my entire music collection right there in this 4"x2.5" device sitting in a handy modified telephone holder on my dash. After I get all my tags updated (i've always used filenames and ignored the tags, so they are all messed up), I can make a bunch of playlists and go on long trips or whatever without having to change cds or scan for certain songs. It's a music lover's wet dream.
